Joanne Harris and Manolo Blahniks

Could be short attention span – lately short story collections look good.

I have an old copy of  James Thurber’s The Thurber Carnival on my shelf – open anywhere for a pick-me-up.

Joanne Harris, author of Chocolat –  offers a collection of 22 short stories  in Jigs and Reels – some funny –  some will make you cry.

The first – “Faith and Hope Go Shopping” about two little old ladies who escape from a nursing home for a day to buy a copy of Lolita and try on a pair of Manolo Blahnick’s reminded me of my ninety year-old mother’s comment – “When I look in the mirror and focus only on my eyes, I am still 21…”
