The Belles Heures

Regardless of what you think of religion, it’s hard to ignore its influence on art.   The Times article One Book’s Take on Life, Death and Devotion offers a famous picture book for consideration. For the first time The Belles Heures – all 172  pages of this medieval masterpiece – will be on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.    The article teases with three illustrated pages from the book.

If you can’t get to Paris to see the Unicorn tapestries or Dublin for the Book of Kells, this might be your chance to see a beautiful definition of “book” as it was written in the middle ages – and another good reason to visit New York City.   Too far to go?  Check out the exhibit on
