Today is Eric Carle’s birthday. Carle, a former graphic designer, creates his books by cutting and layering paper pieces through a collage technique, and has his own picture book art museum in Amherst, Massachusetts. His famous hungry caterpillar chomped holes in the brightly colored pages of “chocolate cake, ice cream, a pickle, Swiss cheese, salami, a lollipop, cherry pie, sausage, watermelon, and a cupcake,” with a green leaf to help digestion. Finally blossoming as a butterfly – it is what it ate.
Happy Birthday, Eric Carle!
Currently, this is one of my son’s favorites (mine too).
Thanks for commenting. I like the Leo Lionni books too, especially “Frederick.”
I loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar, still do actually.
Thanks for your comment. I’m feeling like the hungry caterpillar as I eat my way through San Francisco. I had a watermelon and cucumber salad – what great colors!
The Hungry Caterpillar lives on! Tomorrow my daughter is hosting my grandson’s first birthday party with a HC theme. Menu includes watermelon, leaves (salad), etc. Happy birthday, Eric Carle (and grandson, Chase)!
That sounds like so much fun! Happy Birthday!
The last two years we have celebrated Eric Carle’s Birthday.
